Wie Microsoft mitteilt, wird Xbox Live Gold zum 14. September 2023 abgeschafft und durch den Game Pass Core ersetzt. Dieser wird 6,99 € im Monat bzw. 59,99 € im Jahr kosten – also bleibt der Preis gleich. Was sich ändert: die beiden Games with Gold, die es jeden Monat gab werden abgeschafft und durch ein Basisangebot ersetzt, welches zwei- bis dreimal im Jahr erweitert wird. Auf dieses hat man Zugriff, solange man ein gültiges Abonnement besitzt. Anders als bei Games with Gold, die nachdem man sie seiner Bibliothek hinzugefügt hat, immer verfügbar blieben, kann sich das Angebot im Game Pass Core auch ändern.

Im September werden weitere Titel angekündigt, die das Angebot vervollständigen sollen. Neben den Spielen gibt es aber im Game Pass Core auch die bisherigen Gold-Funktionen, wie Mehrspielerpartien, Rabattaktionen und ähnliches.
