Aus und vorbei ist es bald auch für die deutsche Retro Gamer, denn der eMedia Verlag stellt sie zum Jahresende ein. Das ist durchaus überraschend, denn das Magazin ist durchaus erfolgreich. Da sich der Verlag aber auch von anderen Magazinen trennt, sind die Gründe dafür wohl eher nicht wirtschaftlich motiviert. Vermutlich dünnt die Heise-Gruppe (zu der eMedia gehört) einfach nur ihr Sortiment aus. Freilich ist das für Retrospieler eine schlechte Nachricht, besonders da kürzlich auch Return und GAIN den Kiosk verlassen haben.
Von der deutschen Retro Gamer erscheinen noch zwei Ausgaben. Die (siehe Bild) Ausgabe 4/23 ist ab 10. August am Kiosk zu finden und im November erscheint noch Heft 1/24. Etwas unschön ist der Umgang mit Abonnenten, die vom Verlag nicht informiert wurden und deren Abogebühren (wie bei mir) erst vor einigen Wochen für das kommende Jahr eingezogen wurden. Auch kann man auf der Website weiterhin ein Abo für das Heft abschließen und wird dort nicht über die Einstellung informiert. Auf Nachfrage hat aber eMedia die Einstellung bestätigt.
Davon unbetroffen ist natürlich die englische Originalausgabe der Retro Gamer, die uns auch weiterhin mit Retrothemen versorgen wird. Auch plant das deutsche Team um Chefredakteur Wolfgang Koser eine Fortführung in Eigenregie. Ob es aber dazu kommen wird ist noch ungewiss, denn dazu müsste man die Lizenz vom Future Verlag erwerben und die nicht unerheblichen Kosten für Produktion von Heft und dessen Vertrieb selbst tragen.
